Your style will be developed along your journey. Using your own style is very important for naturality and it ensures that you have a reason to do something. For everything you do, there must be a reason but that doesn't mean you have to tell people all the time what you're going to do. 
Having a reason to do something means that you can do things without talking about them. For instance, if you say to a person “I want you to sign a card” and you hand them a pack of cards, it is only obvious that you will soon hand them a pen so they can sign the card. So opening your jacket and reaching inside is ok and you can go about your business.
