Hi, and welcome to this lecture in this video you're going to learn how to convert a Python script to a Windows executable file. Using a special tool called by installer should you need to check out more information or the official documentation for this software, then feel free to use the links I have attached to this lecture. For now let's focus on converting our calculator to an EFC file. Before starting the conversion process, always make sure that your original Python script is working as expected so that you won't migrate any unwanted or unexpected behavior to the executable file. First of all, we should install pi installer on the Windows operating system. In order to do that, just open up the windows command line and type in pip install by installer.
In my case I have this tool already installed. That's why it says requirement already satisfied. However, in your case, the download and installation process should take about 30 seconds to complete. Wait for the installation to be successfully completed. And now let's move on. In order to check the version of point installer you have installed just type in by installer dash dash version.
And as you can see I have version three dot four currently installed. Also, if you would like to learn more information and the available options for running this tool, you can always use PI installer dash dash help. Okay, so at this point we have this software installed. Next, it's time to have our Python script inside the dedicated folder. In my case, I have it on my D drive inside the E xe folder right here. Now one thing you should keep in mind is that when running by installer on your script, you will need administrator privileges so you should open up a new windows command line by simply typing in CMD right clicking on this icon right here and then run as administrator in this new window, let's navigate to our newly created folder.
So I'm going to type in D colon. Now I am located on my D drive. And next I'm going to use the CD e xe command to navigate to the folder that contains my Python calculator. Here, you should navigate to your own location where you've stored the Python script. Finally, it's time to run pi installer on our Python calculator. The command to achieve this is by installer, dash dash, one file.
And now the name of the script calculator dot p y, where this one file option right here, we'll create a standalone executable file inside the special directory called dist. Let me run this and then we're going to see the results. So I'm going to hit enter. Okay, so after a few seconds, and the very rich output, our executable file should have been created. Let's check this out. I'm going to open my EFC folder and inside this folder notice there's the folder called This right here, the one I just told you about.
Inside the dist folder, you will see the newly created executable file called calculator.xc. Let's double click on this file and run it so we can test that everything is working as expected. So this is the calculator right here. I'm going to minimize these windows. So for example, let's choose zero for addition. And now let's add two values 10 and 20.
The result is correct. Let's go back to the main menu. And let's choose for example, raising to a power enter the base 10 and the power three and the result is 1000. Okay, hitting and we'll quit our program. Okay, so great job it works like a charm. So this is the way to convert the Python script into a Windows executable file.
