DESCRIPTION: Breathing with the Abdomen
There are a lot of psychological theories relating to how we can &ldquo;fix ourselves&rdquo; and have a better life. In this course, we will be making use of two. The first is that we live in a state of self-constriction because we have learned to breathe wrongly. We use the muscles that surround our neck and throat to breathe, sucking and blowing air in and out, which merely keeps our energy and drive shallow. It&rsquo;s a way of breathing that keeps us in a background level of anxiety, a mild fight-or-flight response to life.
All other mammals, when relaxed and not under threat, breathe with their abdomen (belly). By this, I of course don&rsquo;t mean that they have lungs in their stomach. Rather, that they initiate both the inhale and the exhale from the abdomen. Ballooning their belly gently out, their lungs are drawn down, creating a vacuum. As long as their throat is not constrained, air will naturally flow in through their nose or mouth. Relaxing...
