DESCRIPTION:
Reading Food Labels and Portion Sizes

Food labels will show you how much calories are in the food contained in each food.
It is important when reading them and logging them that you take into account the portion size that you are consuming.
Most food labels will contain calorie information based on a standard "portion size", this can be confusing when trying to log food.
Lets take a look at the label from Kellogg's Corn Flakes below:

One Serving is 40 grams and it contains 190 calories which is clear.
However when we pour our cereal do we know what 40 grams looks like - its actually not that much
An average bowl full of corn flakes might actually be 80 grams so thats 380 or double the calories you thought you were eating or tracking.

To help us understand our portion sizes when we first start a new diet, its a good idea to use or invest in a digital kitchen scales to accurately weigh the foods we eat regularly such as cereal rice, pasta etc, as these are very easily...
