Simply put, energy balance is the relationship between Energy Intake (Food) vs. Energy Output (Exercise/Activity/Lifestyle). 

There are 3 possible outcomes:
1.  Iso-Energy Balance
Energy Intake (Food) = Energy Output (Activity) = Weight maintance
2. Positive Energy Balance
Energy Intake (Food) &gt; Energy Output (Activity) = Weight gain
3. Negative Energy Balance
Energy Intake (Food) &lt; Energy Output (Activity) = Weight loss
If you are to achieve your goal of Weight Loss, Gain, or Maintenance you first need to know those two figures for yourself:

Your Energy Intake - Tracking your Food Intake consumed each day
Your Energy Output - Track or understand the calories you burn through your regular days activitys plus any exercise on each day
