Hi, everybody, hope you're doing well in week four. In this video, we're going to talk about the anti aging benefits of intermittent fasting. So, the first one has to do with cognitive function in that mental acuity. So, we've already talked about how, in some of the other videos, how we, you know, obviously, we we come from a hunter from hunter gatherers, right? And that we are we are adapted to, to periods of feast and famine, and that our bodies are used to fasting because we're used to having food shortages, and it's very common in the history of human experience. So, because of that, humans as well as all mammals, are adapted to reserve energy for our brains in periods of food shortage.

So what happens is the body We'll starve other organs from energy and blood while maintaining the energy and blood for the brain. And the reason is for survival because if you can't think you can't find food to get yourself out of that situation so that's why the brain function is maintained and sometimes even improved because in in the effort to survive, the body will go and give more energy and more blood to the brain in order to help you know say get out situation find food to survive also male sexual organs but that's not what we're talking about here. So um, so brain power is increased during during fasting so that is one thing that hopefully you've started to notice. Maybe you've noticed a little extra sharpness about you. You know, if you if you think about all of the major religious traditions have an element of fasting as part They're a part of their tradition, pretty much every religious tradition I can think of includes fasting.

And one of the reasons is because of the increase in cognitive function. So if you're able to focus better, then you're able to better align with your spirituality, especially if this is connected also with periods of meditation. So there's a reason behind the fasting in religious traditions that is also linked to science. So in addition to just the cognitive function, there's also a connection to improve memory. And that's because insulin is known to decrease memory. And we've already talked about how most of us have too much insulin in our blood because we we are eating too much sugar, we're eating too often.

We are, you know, we become insulin resistant. And so because of this, we have Too much insulin and insulin is known to excess insulin is known to impair memory. So that's another reason why intermittent fasting can help with memory issues is because of the insulin, improving the insulin sensitivity and hopefully repairing the insulin sensitivity. So then let's talk about real quick about how intermittent fasting can slow the aging process because that's important. We all want to know about that. So you've probably heard about app apoptosis, even if you don't remember the terminology, and that's basically programmed cell death.

So all of our cells have a limited lifespan and they are basically programmed to self destruct after a certain period of time. So we all know about that and then they're replaced with new cells and our body is constantly constantly renewing itself. When there's another function called RPG which is When just a couple of components of the cell need to be replaced. So if the cell has a breakdown in one or a couple of its of its parts, what will happen is it's able to basically eat that for energy and just replace those parts. And so autophagy is actually in Greek is actually eat oneself. So that's what our selves do.

But the trick is, is that this is a great process, right? Because the bite is another way that the body is constantly renewing itself and the cells are renewing, repairing themselves. But the problem is, is that this process is turned off. When there's when the body's getting nutrients, from from food. So when there is insulin or for proteins present in the body for the cells To eat, it turns off this process because the cells aren't hungry, they don't need the energy so they don't go into the autophagy and, and self repair the elements and basically eat the eat the portions they need to repair. So by doing intermittent fasting, you can turn this process on during your periods of fasting.

And so your cells will be renewing themselves and repairing themselves faster than they otherwise would if you were eating all the time. So that's really important. And that is also important in relation to cognitive health because it works on the brain as well. And there are certain proteins that can build up excess proteins that can build up in the brain that are thought to be linked to Alzheimer's disease. And the autophagy process will also eat those excess proteins or remove those from the brain cells. And so it is thought that intermittent fasting can help to prevent Alzheimer's.

So that's another benefit that we all want to pay attention to. So I think that that that was there's my main points about the about the anti aging benefits, it's really you know, it's really pretty simple. It's your brain it's good for yourselves happy to look younger we've all you know, there's there's plenty of studies that have shown that that as we age, we actually need less calories. And this is one of the reasons is because eating too much food and eating all the time affects your your mental acuity as well as your, your cellular function. And you know, our cellular function ourselves not being able to repair themselves is what eventually leads to, to disease. So, that's it if you have any questions on this section, please shoot me a note or asked me on the Facebook Group and I'd be happy to answer you have a great week.
