DESCRIPTION: When we combine question words with prepositions, we have to change the question words when the persons they represent are in Akkusativ or Dativ:Für wen interessierst du dich? – Für Maria / Für sie.Mit wem fährst du nach Hamburg? – Mit Maria / Mit ihr.
When we talk about things, we have a different option. We can combine the preposistion, e.g. für + was to wofür.mit was → womitzu was → wozu... and so on.
When a preposistion starts with a vowel (a, e, i, ...) we add an r so that the pronunciation is a bit easier:in was → worinauf was → woraufan was →woranand so on.
The same way we can make words out of preposistions, e.g. für + das/den/dem to dafür.mit dem → damitzu dem → dazumit was → damit
... and again with an r for words difficult to pronounce:in das → darinauf das → daraufan das →...
